Farmer's Market

What is the Farmer's Market and how does it work?

The Greater Wheatland Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Scottsville Midweek Farmer's Market, which is hosted by the American Legion Smith Warren Post 367 with support from the Village of Scottsville.  The Market provides an enjoyable community gathering place for residents and visitors, while providing area vendors with the opportunity to sell their products directly to local consumers. Products for sale are at the market include produce and other homemade goods that are produced within a 50 mile radius of the Village of Scottsville. Vendors must produce at least 80% of what they sell themselves with an additional 20% allowable from other sources as long as the product is produced within the defined 50 mile zone.

When does the market operate and where is it located?

The market operates Wednesdays from 4pm to 7pm, starting in the month of June and running through the month September. The Market is located in the parking lot of the American Legion at 61 Main Street in the Village of Scottsville with parking available on Main St or on Scott Crescent including handicapped parking available in the front of the American Legion parking lot.

Parade of Lights

The Parade of Lights is a festival celebrating the holiday season, held each year in early December, with numerous fun and engaging events occurring in and near the Village of Scottsville. A main feature of course is the parade of fire trucks, decorated with holiday lights that travels around the Village, before dropping off Santa Claus at the Wheatland Municipal Building for a Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, followed by a traditional visit with Santa by the children.

Float for Santa

The Float For Santa event is an exciting and fun summertime activity that is sponsored by the Greater Wheatland Chamber of Commerce to help fund the annual Parade of Lights event as well as other community needs.  Bring your Canoe, Tube, Kayak, or whatever you would like to float down the Oatka Creek on. Once registered the adventure seeking floaters are transported along with their "float" to Oatka Creek Park on Union St, where after a short trail hike (5-8 minutes)  they wade out into Oatka Creek and enjoy a 2-3 hour float downstream.

Derby Day

This event is a fun and exciting local "Kentucky Derby Experience" held at the Avon Inn, located on Main Street in Avon NY. There are several Derby related activities that occur throughout the five hour event, culminating in watching the actual Kentucky Derby Race on TV with prizes awarded for "Win-Place-Show". Other activities include a "Hat Parade", a complimentary wine and bourbon tasting, casino games, and an auction of quality items and gift baskets. The entrance fee includes appetizers, a dinner buffet, desert/tea/coffee and cash bar. The Vintage Hat parade is not only fun, but donations are collected for the Big Springs Museum. 50% of the net proceeds are used to benefit the EquiCenter therapeutic horsemanship program for those with disabilities, veterans and at-risk youth.
